About Us

Why We Built This Site

Sauna health content online falls into two camps: breathless wellness marketing that overstates every benefit, and surface-level skepticism that dismisses real research without engaging with it.

Sauna Health Nut exists in neither camp.

We built this site because traditional sauna and infrared sauna therapy both have a genuine and growing body of research behind them, and because that research deserves to be communicated accurately. That means presenting what the evidence actually shows, being clear about where it is strong, where it is preliminary, and where marketing claims have outrun the science.

We are sauna enthusiasts who got tired of reading articles that either promised miracle results or dismissed the entire category without reading the studies.

What We Cover

Sauna Health Nut focuses on:

Sauna education, traditional and infrared: How heat and infrared radiation each work at the tissue level, what the different infrared wavelength types do, how traditional Finnish sauna and infrared sauna compare and differ, and what current research says about specific health applications for each. Traditional sauna carries the strongest cardiovascular and longevity evidence, driven largely by the 20-year Finnish KIHD cohort; infrared sauna has its own body of research around specific wavelengths, EMF exposure, and lower-temperature protocols. We cover both, not one as a stand-in for the other.

Evidence-based health content: Cardiovascular health, chronic pain, inflammation, skin health, athletic recovery, safety protocols, and contraindications, all written against primary research sources with appropriate hedging where evidence is limited.

Reviews and comparisons: Sauna units, accessories, EMF meters, and monitoring devices, evaluated against real specifications and, where possible, hands-on use, not just manufacturer marketing copy. We disclose our affiliate relationships plainly rather than letting them go unmentioned.

Supporting and complementary therapies: Red light therapy, cold plunge and cold exposure, PEMF, and near-infrared light therapy, covered as practices people commonly pair with sauna use, with the same evidence-tiered approach we apply to sauna itself.

Practical guidance: Temperature, session duration, and frequency guidelines; EMF measurement protocols; buying criteria; and portable sauna comparisons.

Myth-busting: We correct the most pervasive sauna marketing claims, infrared and traditional alike, detoxification through sweat, passive calorie burn equivalent to exercise, weight loss from sessions, directly and with the evidence that contradicts them.

Our Editorial Standards

We apply a strict evidence hierarchy to all health content:

  • Claims backed by multiple peer-reviewed studies are presented with appropriate confidence
  • Preliminary findings from small studies are clearly labeled as such
  • Claims unsupported by evidence are corrected, not amplified

We use primary sources, PubMed-indexed studies, systematic reviews, and major academic medical centers, and we link to them directly so you can verify what we write.

For gear, protocols, and practical guidance, our standard is different but just as deliberate: we’ve actually used what we’re writing about, not just summarized a spec sheet. Firsthand experience shapes our reviews and how-to content; it does not substitute for research when we’re making a health claim. Those two categories, what we tested ourselves and what the science shows, stay clearly distinct rather than blended together.

We also have affiliate relationships with sauna brands and Amazon. We are transparent about this on our Disclosure page and on our Editorial and Curation Policy page. Affiliate relationships do not influence which products we recommend or how we evaluate them.

Our Commitment to Medical Honesty

Infrared and traditional saunas are wellness tools, not medical treatments. We say this clearly throughout our content.

We never suggest that sauna use can replace prescribed medical care. We never overstate the evidence for specific health outcomes. We include medical disclaimers on all health content and consistently recommend consulting healthcare providers before beginning sauna use, especially for anyone with cardiovascular conditions, medications affecting thermoregulation, or other relevant health considerations.

If you see something on our site that contradicts this commitment, we want to know. Email us at info@saunahealthnut.com.

Contact and Corrections

We take factual accuracy seriously. If you identify an error, have a correction to suggest, or want to ask about our research process, contact us:

We respond to substantive corrections and update content when new research changes established findings.
